[Freehand] Problems with text appearance when opening a Freehand 9 file in Illustrator

I am exporting a Freehand 9 file into Illustrator 7 format.
I am then opening the Illustrator file in Illustrator 10 and em experiencing
a number of problems with text in my file.

For example text attached to a path frequently changes alignment.
Other text (non-aligned to a path) often appears in a much larger container
which makes it difficult to work with.  So rather than the container being
the size of the text it might be the same width but 10x the height.

Any help would be appreciated
